Live-In Support Worker in Didcot Job Description

Providing 24/7 round-the-clock support while living in the service user's home to ensure total wellbeing.

Rates of Pay

  • Training: £12.71 per hour
  • Probationary period: Up to £800 per week, £110 per day weekdays, £125 per day weekends.
  • After probationary period: up to £900 per week, £120 per day weekdays, £150 per day weekend

Working Hours

  • Live-in care: Available 7:00–22:00 and throughout the night (max 2 wake-ups)
  • Required to work any public holidays that fall on usual working day

Location

  • Services delivered in service users’ homes
  • May require travel throughout Abingdon, Didcot, surrounding villages, or other locations as needed

Purpose of Position

  • Personal care and household care management per individual care plan
  • Respect service user dignity, privacy, and independence

Main Duties

  • Provide person-centred care for people with a range of illnesses and disabilities
  • Assist with personal care: getting up, going to bed, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, shaving, oral care, toileting
  • Assist with prescribed medication only
  • Support mobility and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and use of aids/equipment
  • Encourage independence, diversity, and equal opportunity
  • Support dying service users
  • Promote mental and physical activity through conversation, outings, reading, hobbies, and recreation
  • Provide companionship
  • Household duties: make/change beds, tidy rooms, light cleaning, empty commodes, launder clothing
  • Meal support: set tables, serve meals, feed when necessary, prepare light meals, wash up
  • Assist with pet care: feeding, walking
  • Collect pensions, medications, and take service users shopping
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals when appropriate
  • Support families and other support workers

Principal Responsibilities

  • Treat service users and staff with respect
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and care plans
  • Communicate effectively, respecting preferred methods of communication
  • Wear uniform, ID badge, and PPE at all times
  • Ensure visits are on time, document accurately, and submit timesheets
  • Maintain clear, up-to-date records: care logs, communication sheets, medication forms, financial transaction sheets
  • Complete holiday requests and other paperwork as required
  • Document visits in communication sheets accurately and considerately
  • Follow company regulations for handling finances
  • Promote safe working practices, infection control, and hazard monitoring
  • Report accidents, incidents, sickness, absence, and changes in service user health/behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality and report breaches
  • Know and comply with prohibited duties
  • Advise managers of problems or improvement ideas
  • Participate in induction, training, forums, supervisions, and personal development reviews
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required
